Using AI with your inbox (MCP)
Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Windsurf to read, search, and send email.
What is the MCP add-on?
The MCP (Model Context Protocol) add-on lets AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Windsurf connect directly to your Hatched Mail inbox. They can:
- Read and summarize your emails
- Search your inbox with natural language
- Draft and send replies on your behalf
- Organize emails into folders or apply labels
It costs $9 USD/month (plus applicable tax) and requires a Lifetime license. You can cancel anytime.
Step 1 — Get a Lifetime license
The MCP add-on requires the Lifetime plan ($79 USD, one-time). If you're on the Free plan, upgrade first in Settings → Billing.
Step 2 — Subscribe to the MCP add-on
In Settings → Billing, find the AI MCP Add-on section and click Subscribe. You'll be redirected to Stripe to complete payment. Applicable tax is calculated at checkout.
Step 3 — Create a PurelyMail app password
The MCP server connects directly to PurelyMail's IMAP/SMTP servers on your behalf, so it needs an app password. Log in to PurelyMail's webmail, open your account security settings and generate a new app password. Keep it handy — you'll add it to your AI client's MCP configuration in the next step.
Step 4 — Connect your AI client
The MCP server is published to npm as @hatched-digital/mail-mcp. It runs locally as a stdio process that your AI client launches on demand — no URL or API key needed. Add your email address and app password as environment variables:
Claude Desktop
Edit claude_desktop_config.json:
{
"mcpServers": {
"hatched-mail": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@hatched-digital/mail-mcp"],
"env": {
"HATCHED_MAIL_EMAIL": "you@yourdomain.com",
"HATCHED_MAIL_PASSWORD": "your-app-password"
}
}
}
}Cursor
Add the same block to .cursor/mcp.json in your project (or via Cursor's MCP settings UI).
Windsurf
Add the same block to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.
ChatGPT
OpenAI's MCP support is evolving. Check the latest documentation at OpenAI's site for how to connect a local stdio MCP server.
Privacy & security
- The MCP server runs entirely on your machine — credentials never leave it except to connect to PurelyMail
- AI assistants only access your email when you explicitly ask them to
- Email content is fetched live from your PurelyMail IMAP server — we don't store it
- To revoke access, delete or rotate the app password in PurelyMail's webmail
Cancelling
To cancel the MCP add-on, go to Settings → Billing and click Manage next to the MCP add-on. You'll be redirected to Stripe's billing portal where you can cancel. Access continues until the end of your current billing period.
